  1. How do I resolve error -6421: An error occurred determining if the setup is a major upgrade?

I use Installshield 2023. I had simply replaced the set of .dll's that our Installshield project is configured to read from that were more recent and that I wanted included in the install. I then clicked Build in InstallShield as I always have. No other settings or project configurations were changed.

Out of nowhere, I am encountering the error -6421: An error occurred determining if the setup [Our MSI] is a major upgrade. I first restarted the PC, and that did not fix the issue. I then deleted the whole Temp directory, and that also did not fix the issue. There is no further documentation available that I can see, so I am hoping that someone can provide a resolution or additional troubleshooting tips for this.

    Thanks.

  2. I tried to deactivate my InstallShield 2010 license on my old Windows 10 computer and transfer it to my new Windows 11 computer. When I tried to deactivate it on the Windows 10 computer I received error message 50040.

It said to run TSconfig to fix this problem. Now I can't access the license on either computer.

      Hi Richard,

InstallShield 2010 has reached EOL and there is not activation/technical support available for this product.

The InstallShield Activation Service has been discontinued, and this was announced back on February 2, 2022.

We recommend you try our latest version of InstallShield, which is version 2026 and check if it meets your requirement. You can download our trial software from below link:

      https://info.revenera.com/IS-EVAL-InstallShield-Premier

Please go through the attached document for more information on upgrade and sales contact.

      Regards,

      Sunil.

  3. My instance of Installshield 2021 is reporting a broken license, and told me to try offline activation. I did do that and and it reported that we were using a different machine.

I assume that is because we changed hosting providers for our servers and now the Installshield licensing system does not recognize the licensed server anymore. How can I get my license for Installshield restored and working on the 'new' machine.

    Thanks

  4. Title: FEKO 2022.1 InstallAnywhere launcher fails with “Windows error 2” on Windows 11 (Win11 26200)

I’m trying to install Altair FEKO 2022.1 on Windows 11, but the installer consistently fails at launch with a “Windows error 2 occurred while loading the Java VM” / InstallAnywhere launcher failure.

    System details

    • OS: Windows 11 (Build 26200)
    • Java: Bundled OpenJDK 11.0.15 (Corretto 11)
    • FEKO installer size: ~2.87 GB (fully downloaded)
    • Running from local extracted folder (not network drive)
    • Virtualization-based Security (VBS): Enabled
    • App Control for Business: Enforced

What I have tested so far

The installer extracts successfully and contains all expected components:

    • InstallerData
    • folder is present and complete (~2.87 GB total package)
    • resource\jre\bin\java.exe
    • exists and runs correctly
    • InstallAnywhere launcher classes are present (com/zerog/lax etc.)

  5. An IIS Web MSI does not install into wwwroot.

When I create a web MSI for IIS (Basic MSI), the folder does not install into the wwwroot directory.

In the General Information section, the INSTALLDIR variable is correctly set to "[IISROOTFOLDER]MyWebSite".

In the Internet Information Services view, under Web Sites, the "Content Source Path [Local or UNC]" property contains the variable "[INSTALLDIR]".

And in System Search, IISROOTFOLDER is correctly retrieved from the registry key "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\PathWWWRoot". The MinorVersion and MajorVersion variables are also being retrieved.

    Am I missing something?

I am using InstallShield 2025 R1 Premier Edition.

I also tried using IISScan.exe to retrieve information about a website, but it returns the error: "The website 'MyWebSite' was not found."
