LMadmin will not start on 64bit Linux system

Symptoms

When installing lmadmin on a 64bit Linux machine, the server may not start.

Cause

There are a number of reasons for this problem:

1. lmadmin is installed under the root account.
2. 32bit vendor daemon is being used on a 64bit machine.
3. LSB module is missing from the distrobution of Linux.
4. libgcc_s.so.1 is incompatible with lmadmin.
5. No loopback address configured.

Resolution

1. The 64bit installer for lmadmin on Linux is a copy of the 32bit installer. This contains a 32bit version of the Demo Daemon and therefore will not run on 64bit systems. It is preferable to copy the 6bit version of the Demo Daemon from the 64bit flex kit or, use your 64bit Vendor daemon on a 64bit machine.
2. The LSB modules have not been installed on the Linux system. This is especially the case for the Ubuntu distribution. You can install the LSB module by running the following command:
   sudo apt-get install LSB
3. The file libgcc_s.so.1 is missing form the system. If this is the case, then copy a 32bit version from /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 on a 32bit machine to the /lib32/ folder of the 64bit machine.
4. The loopback address in the /etc/hosts file on the system is not configured correctly.
