By default, SQL Server is hosted on port 1433. Therefore the SQLLogin dialog uses this port as the default when attempting to connect. This article explains how to connect to a different port if SQL Server is hosted elsewhere.

Discussion

When including a SQL connection in the "SQL Scripts" view of the InstallShield IDE, the SQLLogin dialog is included in the project by default. This dialog allows the end user to specify the SQL Server name and login credentials to connect to the desired database. By default, this dialog will attempt to connect to the specified server name using port 1433, which is the default SQL Server port.

If the SQL Server is located on a different port and port 1433 is blocked for security purposes, the new port number can be specified directly within the SQLLogin dialog. In the "Database Server" field, enter the server name and the port number delimited by a comma. For example:

MySQLServerName,1460

In the above example, the database server is named "MySQLServerName" and it's hosted on port 1460. Specifying the port number in this field will allow it to connect on that port rather than the default port.

The port number can also be hard-coded from within the setup itself as another options. To accomplish this, follow the steps below:

Select the "Property Manager".
Locate the property entitled "IS_SQLSERVER_SERVER" and enter the database server name and port directly.

For example, setting this to a value of "MySQLServerName,1460" will pre-populate this in the SQLLogin dialog.
