Commander provides multiple data recording options that mimic live environments for advanced troubleshooting. These recordings help capture environmental interactions between Commander and your cloud accounts, making it easier to investigate connectivity issues. Follow the respective procedures below to create and manage recordings.

Data Recording
- Log in to Commander using an account with either the Superuser or Enterprise Admin role.
- Browse to Help > Support.
- Click Data Recording.
- Choose either Record continuously or Record for a limited time, setting the Duration in minutes.
- Use continuous recording if you’re unsure of the time required to reproduce the issue.
- Choose either System generated filename or User specified filename, and provide the file name if needed.
- Select Record All or Record only specified cloud account (managed system), then choose the cloud account.
- Enable Start recording with snapshot unless instructed otherwise by support.
- Click Start Recording.
- Click Stop Recording to end the process if you selected continuous mode or need to stop early.
- Click Close to exit the dialog.
- Retrieve the file from:
<Install_Directory>\Embotics\vCommander\tomcat\recordedData\ - Send this file to Flexera Support.
Automatic Recording
(Available starting with Commander 9.5.3)
- Browse to Configuration > System and switch to the Advanced tab.
- Filter the list of system properties using the term record.
- Set
embotics.observation.recording.in.memory.queue.sizeto 100. - Set
embotics.observation.recording.stop.on.snapshot.failureto true. - After experiencing a cloud account disconnection, retrieve the file from:
<Install_Directory>\Embotics\vCommander\tomcat\recordedData\- Send this file to Flexera Support.
Billing Data Recording
- Log in to Commander using an account with either the Superuser or Enterprise Admin role.
- Browse to Help > Support.
- Click Billing Data Recording.
- If billing data recording is not enabled, select the cloud account for which you want to enable recording.
- Click Start Recording.
- Recordings are stored in timestamped folders under:
<Install_Directory>\Embotics\vCommander\tomcat\logs\billing_recordings\ - Retrieve these files and send them to Flexera Support.
User Interface Data Recording
- Log in to Commander using an account with either the Superuser or Enterprise Admin role.
- Browse to Help > Support.
- Click User Interface Data Recording.
- Choose either Record continuously or Record for a limited time, setting the Duration in minutes.
- Choose either System generated filename or User specified filename, and provide the file name if needed.
- Select Record all sessions or Record selected sessions, and choose the username to record.
- Click Start Recording.
- Click Stop Recording when finished or to end early.
- Click Close to exit the dialog.Retrieve the file from:
<Install_Directory>\Embotics\vCommander\tomcat\recordedUIData\ - Send this file to Flexera Support.
