Maintenance mode requirements for adding Beanstalk environment variables
You do not need to enable maintenance mode when adding Elastic Beanstalk environment variables. These variables belong to the Beanstalk application layer and are applied independently of your Elastigroup configuration.

Environment variable behavior

Elastic Beanstalk environment variables are part of the Beanstalk application settings. They are not tied to the infrastructure that Elastigroup manages. When you add or update variables:

  • The changes apply on the Beanstalk side

  • Instances that Elastigroup launches automatically use the updated variables

  • No infrastructure changes occur, so no maintenance mode is required

You can add or edit environment variables in the Elastic Beanstalk console. To learn more about these settings, see the Amazon documentation.
