Steps to Publish SNOW Client for Windows?

I have been going through a bunch of documents related to the pushing or publishing a new SNOW client for Windows in Inventory 5 Server. There does not seem to be one step by step document that outlines this process. I see sections in several documents that appear to be parts of the process.

Does anyone have or can point me to the right document? I have tried this several times but have mixed results and feel I missed something on the last attempt to publish a new client.

Thanks,

  • Hi. You have two options: No.1: Deploy with a thrid Party tool If you use a deployment tool like SCCM, AD or something else, you can install/update the Client with it. In this case you read the Inventory Agent instructions . There are different ways with copy job or MSI file. No.2: Deploy with the Snow Inventory Server In this case you will read the Inventory Admin Console instructions . In section 4 you will find a step-by-step instruction that explain all the things that have to be done. But this is only possible if an older version is installed. For a first Installation look at No.1 Best regards, Kai

    • 100% suggest you use SCCM to roll the agent out. Our estate is a mixture of SCCM and manual installs as SCCM is currently being deployed globally. The manual installs and Group Policy roll-out was painful, so we're just going with the SCCM project now !
    • thank you, good document. But I do have another question. The first step is to "Create a New Configuration" under configurations. In my configuration list one showed up as a result of the updated 5.2.1 MSI I installed to test. That is the configuration I would like to use. So I have to assume that first step was completed because of those installations. Correct? Can I use that configuration or do I need to create a new one? Thank you.

      • Yes, you can use this "old" configuration. A new one is only necessary if you want to change something. Many regards, Kai
        • BTW: This "old configuration" is a result of new client installs. I used it, lets see how it goes.   Thanks.
    • With option 2 the Inventory Server is anyone else having issues with it not working anymore? early versions of the agent i could deploy but now all i get is failed and the log files give no indication of why it failed. I have tried new packages and the update options both fail.  Personally this would be the best way to deploy from first install because Snow now push the new agents via Snow Update Services you can always deploy the latest agent and update the rest of the estate from the product.Rather than having to log a support ticket to get the new agent which takes weeks and by the time you get it there is a newer one out. I have logged a support ticket but was initially told it was because they were developing the system so each update will give new functionality so i questioned us being the beta testers on a production environment! Still awaiting an update so in the mean time need to manually or via "PDQ deploy" to deploy agent as we dont use SCCM.
