You may receive the warning message There are no custom attributes defined in the system when trying to set custom attributes in Snow Commander, even though you have created one or more custom attributes. This typically occurs because the custom attributes are not configured to apply at the infrastructure level where you are attempting the change.
This warning appears when attempting to set custom attributes on an infrastructure element that has no applicable attributes. For example, if attributes such as IP Address and Manager Email apply only to forms and others apply to Virtual Machines and vApps, selecting a datacenter will result in the warning because there are no applicable custom attributes.
To make a custom attribute globally applicable, follow these steps:
- Under the Configuration menu, click Custom Attributes.
- Select the attribute you want to make global from the list and click Edit.
- On the Define Attribute page, set Applies To: All.
- Click Next, then Finish.
Important: Once a custom attribute has been added to Commander, you can only change it to All. If you need to change an attribute configured for cloud accounts (managed systems) to datastores, you must delete and recreate the attribute.
Outcome
The selected custom attribute is now globally applicable and can be set across all infrastructure levels without error.
