Summary

You may find the error: 'java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded' in the flexnet.log from the Reporting module, normally caused by too much data consuming available memory. This article explains how this can be resolved.

Symptoms

The following error may appear in the flexnet.log belonging to the Reporting module:
2014-06-29 04:12:15,880 DEBUG [reporting.reportdatabasecleanup] [Thread-17] Report database cleanup is disabled or detected other reporting activities
2014-06-29 04:12:20,567 ERROR [remotereporting.databaseutils] [Thread-122] Unknown exception from retrieveAndProcessEvents() - GC overhead limit exceeded
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded.

Cause

This is caused by the number of reporting records that are loaded into cache killing the available memory on the machine.

Resolution

This can be resolved by increasing the Java heap size from the default value by using the FlexNet Configurator for the module.
