Hidden InstallShield Prerequisites Use the Silent Command Line

Summary

When a prerequisite is marked as hidden from the installation list, then the execution of the prerequisite will use the prerequisite's silent command line.

Synopsis

If a prerequisite is configured to be hidden from the installation list, when the prerequisite executes, the prerequisite's silent command line will be used instead of the regular command line. This is true regardless of whether the prerequisite is installed before feature selection (a setup prerequisite) or is associated with a feature (a feature prerequisite).

Discussion

A prerequisite can be configured to be hidden from the installation list. This configuration is done by opening the prerequisite in the Prerequisite Editor, selecting the Behavior tab and checking the box labeled 'The prerequisite should be hidden from the installation list'.
When a prerequisite is marked as hidden from the installation list, then the execution of the prerequisite will use the prerequisite's silent command line.
The silent command line can be viewed in the Prerequisite Editor under the Application to Run tab in the text box under the label 'Specify the command line for the application when the setup is running in silent mode'.
The command line labeled 'Specify the command line for the application when the setup is running in silent mode' will be used if one or more of the following is true:
  • The main installation is run in silent mode
  • The prerequisite's behavior is configured to be hidden from the installation list
Also note, if the silent command line is left blank and one of the above is true, the prerequisite will run with an empty command line. Therefore, it is recommended if the text box labeled 'Specify the command line for the application' has a value, then the text box labeled 'Specify the command line for the application when the setup is running in silent mode' also has a value. This ensures that if an user ever runs the installation silently, a proper command line will be used when executing the prerequisite.
