Symptoms
Customers importing inventory from third-party sources (e.g., ServiceNow) may observe that certain devices are not automatically categorized as "Server" within FlexNet Manager Suite (FNMS).
Upon investigation, these devices are imported from the third-party inventory source with Operating System titles such as "Windows 2022" or "Windows 2025" instead of the standard "Windows Server 2022" or "Windows Server 2025" naming convention.
Cause
FNMS identifies whether a device is a Server based on the reported Operating System. For Windows, it looks for the specific prefix "Windows Server" to trigger the Server classification.
While the recognition logic had previously been enhanced to incorporate variants like "Windows 2016" and "Windows 2019," newer versions, specifically Windows 2022 and Windows 2025, were not yet included in the recognition list. Consequently, the system failed to recognize these as server-based operating systems, defaulting the device to a non-server category.
Resolution:
Flexera has enhanced the operating system recognition logic to more gracefully handle these common naming variations from external inventory sources. The system now correctly interprets "Windows 2022" and "Windows 2025" as Server operating systems and automatically classifies the corresponding devices as Server.
Status by Release:
FlexNet Manager Suite Cloud: This enhancement was included in the January 2026 Cloud Release.
FlexNet Manager Suite On-Premises: This enhancement is included in FNMS 2025 R2 and later versions.
