Unable to access Snow Licence Manager (SLM): Authentication error...you do not have access to Snow License Manager

Issue

This morning we have been experiencing an issue in getting in to SLM, and are met with an authentication error message (see attached).
However the server is up and running and there does not appear to be an issue with the application itself.

Error shown when trying to access is:
"Authentication Error
You have been successfully identified by your organization's secure ID lookup.
However, you do not have access to Snow License Manager. To solve this issue, contact your System Administrator.
To avoid repeat error messages, please sign out of the authentication process by clicking the Sign out button below."

Environment

Snow License Manager (SLM) with federated authentication enabled,

Steps to reproduce

Requested the log files located in C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow License Manager\Web\Logs
Reviewed the security log and found the following extracts:

"FEDERATED SECURITY 'UseFederatedAuthentication' setting is enabled."

then to indicate the issue we found:
"An exception occured: The ... certificate with subject name CN=Microsoft Azure Federated SSO Certificate and serial number ...doesn't have a private key."

Solution

In this instance the issue was caused by the azure certificate expiring:
