In the Support portal select the Create Recognition Request (DIS) form to submit a form directly to the Snow Data Intelligence Service (DIS) team with the information they need to process the request.
We recommend that you please watch the short (less than 2 minute) tutorial video below before submitting your first form please.
On the Create Recognition Request (DIS) form, the following request categories are available:
-
- Software Applications
- SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)
- SaaS Applications
- SaaS Subscriptions
- Vulnerabilities
- Lifecycle
- Containers
- As stated in the video there are mandatory fields that must be filled out, and these fields vary based on the type of request.
- When multiple SKUs, Software Applications, or SaaS Applications need to be recognized and added to the Snow Global database, the most efficient approach is to create all these requests in one single DIS ticket. This accelerates the recognition process and prevents duplication. It also proves beneficial when DIS requires additional information like a snowpack file for a software application recognition, a HAR file for a SaaS application, or a comprehensive description of a SKU number.
For a Software Application request, the following information must be provided:
- Product name
- Manufacturer name
- Version
- A main executable/full path to the executable
See FAQ: How do I find Main Executable files & Registry values if you need help finding the information for these fields.
In situations where it is not possible to verify a requested application as a standalone application due to the absence of existing recognition, further steps are required in the verification process.
To proceed with the verification process, DIS then needs additional information including one or both of the following:
- a snowpack file, (See this article if you need help generating a snowpack)
- a link (URL) to the product web page.
A snowpack file from the computer where the application is installed, enhances the accuracy of the application recognition.
For a SKU request, the following information must be provided:
- SKU number
- Product description
- Manufacturer name
Furthermore, we might also need an invoice that includes the full product name and description, especially in cases where the SKU number cannot be verified, or the description is unclear.
With a SKU number comes a product description. Since we only target licenses for applications, the product description would be a description of the use rights for a specific software. The product description is vital to understand the use rights and to create any value by adding the SKU.
This is how we translate the product description:
For a SaaS Application request, the following information must be provided:
- Product name
- Manufacturer name
- The URL to the Post login page
The scheme, host, and path are mandatory as they provide all necessary data for accurate metering.
In situations where the provided post login information is not clear, we need to request a generated HAR file.
Frequently asked Questions
- Question: Who can access the Create Recognition Request (DIS) form?
- Answer: Any Snow customer or partner who has registered for Snow Globe / Support Portal.
- Question: Can I view and export the entries within the DIS form?
- Answer: After the DIS form has been submitted you can go back to view the case and click on the DIS request form tab. You can then select the Export to Excel button to export all entries.
- Question: How does the vulnerabilities form work?
- Answer: The vulnerabilities form is for customers with our Risk Monitor module. CVE, short for Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures, is a list of publicly disclosed computer security flaws. When someone refers to a CVE, they mean a security flaw that's been assigned a CVE ID number. If a customer has found that a vulnerability is missing from our database they can use the form as a request for it to be added. Our database is populated from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) database however it can sometimes take a few days for the vulnerability to show. The vulnerabilities are not seen in Snow License Manager but are in Risk Monitor.
- Question: Within the Software Applications form, there's a column called "Offline or Online Customer"...what does this mean?
- Answer: Within the Snow Update Service it is possible to configure whether a customer wants to automatically update the SRS database every night (Online) or whether they want to do this manually (Offline). When offline they will need to download and install the files themselves. More details here.
- Question: How does the SaaS Subscriptions form work?
- Answer: This form is for when you find that an application is missing from a subscription plan such as M365. Vendors such as Microsoft and Adobe are often amending/releasing new software and the methods by which they sell them, it can be that our recognition has not applied the change. Snow customers have thousands of people working in SAM every day and may notice these changes early. The form enables you to inform us of the changes and allows us to update our software recognition rules quickly for all of our Snow users.
