Snow Automation Platform: How to pre-populate a parameter using a PowerShell webservice
A PowerShell web service can be used to assist the user when selecting AD group by searching the Active Directory.
If you are not familiar please search for and read the following articles:
The workflow Add user to group is used for this example.
NOTE: PowerShell web services can be connected to parameters on Activity, Workflow and Service level.
Create PowerShell Script
Write a PowerShell script
Example:
function MyFunction {
param($search)
Import-Module APCommon
FindADObject -adObject $search -filterTypes Group -includeWildcards $true
}
Create a PowerShell web service

Select PowerShell web service from Administrator menu.

Select Add web service.
-
Name the web service Get AD Group
-
Save.
The PowerShell web service has been created.
Attach a PowerShell web service to a Parameter in a workflow

Select Workflow admin from the administer menu.

Select and expand the workflow Add user to group
-
Select and expland the activity adduser
-
Select and expand the parameter Group.

Select the Value Population tab.

Select Autocomplete as the kind of input field to use.

Select Get AD Groupfrom the PowerShell web service dropdown option.

Enter {0} as the parameterName. This represents the input from the user.

Enter DisplayName as the Display attribute. This is name that user will see at Checkout.

Enter SamAccoountName as the Value attribute. This is the value that is used by the activity.

Save All changes.
The PowerShell web service is now connected to the parameter in the workflow.
Test that the parameter auto-populates correctly

Find and Select the service from the Service Catelog

Add the service to the cart.

Go to Checkout.

Begin filling in the name of an AD group. The field pre-populates.

Select Submit.
-
Select Request Monitor from the Administer menu.

Verify the request is processed as expected.
