  1. Recognition of MSDN product edition

    Hello everyone,

I wonder about the possibility of recognising Microsoft products with MSDN. Looking through the documentation I noticed the following notation:

"This script was developed to enhance recognition of:

    • Project and Visio, if Installed through the Office 365 distribution and MS Portal.
    • MSDN recognition
    • In-depth gathering of ProductReleaseIDs to enhance MS Office 2016/2019 & 365 recognition
    • If the product has been deployed and installed with the Click-to-Run option."

This is a fragment of the script description for Microsoft products.

Does anyone use this script and the version with MSDN recognise correctly? I have been in contact with Support, but there they stated that there is no way to recognise this version.

      Hi Joanna

I would suggest to reach out to the DIS recognition team (via Support team) who could assist you with the recognition issue and advise / supply any related script however, you mention that you have spoken to Support and therefore may have spoken to the recognition team already?

If you have done the above then it could be a case that the current rules cannot identify the individual application or perhaps a global rule could not be applied for some reason, if this is the case then possibly the only way to recognize the application would be to write a local rule.

The link here explains what can and cannot be added to the Global database.

Use this link here to assist you in writing your own local rule

If you have issues writing your own rule and need further assistance, then you would need to raise a support request with the support team who may be able to advise you further. I'll add the link for here for the Snow Portal should you need this.

      Kind

      Regards

  2. Is there a database with all the SKUs available in Snow?

Is there a database with all the SKUs available in Snow? Other than searching by SKU or application name in SLM.

  3. Customer asks why can't SRS packages be downloadable from snowsoftware.com

Hi, does anyone have an answer to this on-prem customer question?: "Why doesn't Snow provide the SRSPackage on their servers, as with other updates?" The reason they are being picky is because they raised a proxy request for snowsoftware.com, which doesn't include the SRS URL https://sus-prod-portal.azurewebsites.net and they doubt their security team (Swiss Bank) would open one for azurewebsites.net. :-( Hence, they would prefer to have the SRS Packages downloadable from snowsoftware.com. Can anyone provide reasoning why this is not possible?

    Best regards,

    Dan

Could they obtain and apply a SRS Offline Update? The process is detailed here: https://docs.snowsoftware.com/snow-update-service/en/UUID-d390dab2-89c9-a268-a28a-ba6b6fcce096.html

To open Snow Update Portal and create your SRS update package:

      1. In a browser, open https://updatesportal.snowsoftware.com.
      2. Select SRS Update.
      3. In the Email address box, enter an email address. A download link to the software update package will be sent to this email address when the package has been generated.
      4. In the License key box, enter your SRS license key.
      5. Select which update types you want to include in the package. All types are included by default. If you don't want all types to be included, deselect the preselected All below (default) checkbox and select the checkboxes for the types you want to include.
      6. Select Request package.
      7. An update package is generated.
      8. Download the update package, either directly via the Snow Update Portal, or via the link in the email sent to the email address you entered in Step 3. Save the package to a location that is accessible via the Snow Update Service application.
      9. Depending on the size of the file, the download may take a while.

All generated offline update packages are encrypted, company-specific, and can only be used for the installation that matches their unique configuration. Update packages are generated and saved with a .spk file extension.

      Install updates offline

If the server on which your Snow products are installed does not have an internet connection, you can install software and SRS updates offline according to the description below. Note that you must first create a software or SRS update package via the Snow Update Portal and download it to a location that is accessible via the Snow Update Service application, as described in Create an update package for offline product updates and Create an update package for offline SRS updates respectively.

      1. On the SUS GUI main menu, select Change settings, select the Use offline mode checkbox, and then select Save.
      2. On the SUS GUI main menu, select Install offline updates or Install offline SRS updates, depending on the type of update.
      3. Browse to the offline update file (.spk) and then select Open.
      4. Depending on the size of the file, this may take a while.
      5. For the Install offline SRS updates option, this is the last step and SUS will start synchronizing the updates.
      6. For the Install offline updates option: in the Available updates view, select the checkboxes for the product updates you want to install, and then select Install.

  4. Applicaiton installs report on a number of desktop

    Hi ,

Is there a way to pull one report showing installed software on a number of desktops at the same time? We got a request from business to show installed applicaiton on over 35 devices.

    Question with a best answer.

    Best Answer

    Hi,

the report will still be the same.

If you want to add the computers one by one, you will have to use "or" instead of "and" as you will clearly not find a computer with all the 10 names.

As an alternative, you can create a custom field to select the computers. Will need more preparation but will be much more flexible if you need a similar report from time to time.

    • If you have read access to Snow DB, you could take the report from DB

    • This is what I received from Snow support:

In order to see the applications reflect in your SLM system , Please kindly update your SRS rules via the SUS application tool on SLM server . Once the SRS rules have been synched you should start seeing the application.

What are the steps to update the SRS rules via the SUS app on SLM server?

      Cheers,

      Dan

  5. Hi Community, what kind of details are required for the SRS Template?

In the customer PROD environment, the Software «Citrix Optimizer Tool» is not recognized.

Which details should I search for to complete the form and what is the best way to search for these? Should I begin by looking at a snowpack file where the SW could be found? Many thanks in advance for your responses.

    Best regards,

    Dan
