"Incompatible plugin(s) detected" when opening Snow Management and Configuration Center (SMACC)

Title

Issue

Snow Management and Configuration Center (SMACC) version 2.1 is included with the release of Snow License Manager 9.26.0. Any installation that still includes the Inventory Admin plugin (discontinued since the release of Inventory 6.5.0 ) will display the following error when launching:

Incompatible plugin(s) detected

1 incompatible plugin(s) detected while loading.
Connections for incompatible plugins will not be displayed.
Too resolve this issue try updating SnowMACC.
If the issue persist contact support.
See error log for details.

When this error is present, users cannot proceed past it to using SMACC.

Environment

Snow License Manager 9.26 includes Snow Management and Configuration Center 2.1

Steps to reproduce

The error message is correct and identifying that the plugin should be removed, following the process detailed in the next section.

Solution

Removing the plugin configuration and removing its files from the SMACC folder solves the issue. Please note, however, this functionality of accessing the Inventory server using SMACC tool no longer works.

Follow this process to remove the plugin and its files:

Move Snow Management and Configuration Center\PlugIns\InventorySMACCPlugin\InventoryAdmin.Plugin.dll to a backup location.
Backup C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SnowSoftware\SnowMACC_configuration.xml to another location so you can return to the initial state if the unexpected occurs.
Edit C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SnowSoftware\SnowMACC_configuration.xml using Notepad++ or another text editor.
- Remove the whole sub-section between <connection> and </connection> that contains the <plugin> to </plugin> section and then save the file.
- For example, lines 35 to 41 as shown below:

Backup C:\ProgramData\SnowSoftware\SnowMACC\RegisteredPlugins\ to another location so you can return to the initial state if the unexpected occurs.
Remove any related files from C:\ProgramData\SnowSoftware\SnowMACC\RegisteredPlugins\.
- Files to remove include those with "inventory" in their name.
- This folder should only contain LicenseManager.xml file or backups of this file.

With the configuration purged and the files removed, SMACC should now launch normally.

Cause

The plugin is no longer supported but has not been removed from use.
